"Red Shoes Allowed",Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes uses the etiological tale “The Red Shoes” as metaphorical instruction on how to create a life that is uniquely your own- “a life made by hand”.Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes uses the etiological tale “The Red Shoes” as metaphorical instruction on how to create a life that is uniquely your own- “a life made by hand” (1992). This tale warns against both unchallenged conformity and clandestine rebellion, two extremes I vacillated between in my own faith journey of being raised in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. These hand-pieced red shoes represent my reconciliatory efforts in reevaluating and reconstructing my faith, my relationship with Christ, my identity, my church membership, my feminism, and my roles as a sister, a woman, a wife, and a mother. This assemblage piece honors the sacred process of self-acceptance and co-creation with my Savior and encourages others to piece together intuition and inspiration in their own creative and unique lives.
